1st May 2016 - REST DAY - Albuquerque, New Mexico. May 1st - a lovely day for a rest day in the city of Albuquerque!! Sadly for a day when we could be a tourist - the weather was pretty cold, made even more cold by the strong easterly wind!! Had we been riding we would have had a dreadful day trying to ride directly into this strong wind!! Unbelievable that this has happened on our rest day - very thankful to the weather Gods!! My fingers were crossed that it would be better tomorrow when we ride!
We managed to make a visit to Costco to top up on some snack supplies, to a bike shop for more tubes (pronounced toobs) and full-fingered gloves for Annie.
Once the shopping was done we headed to Old Town Albuquerque and the museum area which is truly beautiful. The statues are amazing and the grassed park area just beautiful and it was such a shame that the weather didn't inspire us to have a bigger wander around. One thing we didn't want to do was get cold's and have to deal with that for the rest of the trip.
Annie and Don went to the Pablo Indian Center which they thoroughly enjoyed - and as a sign of how cold it was, one of the normally outside display dances was moved inside.
In the evening Dan and Sue prepared another beautiful dinner and invited their neighbours Kathy and Lance over as well. Lance is a keen cyclist - and Kathy does that invaluable support role. Last year Lance rode from Stockholm to Rome - some of the way with Dan and Sue - so it was a great table full of cycling talk from everyone!! Kathy and Lance are also warmshowers hosts - so Albuquerque has some very hospitable people to turn to!!
Kathy bought a bunch of flowers for the table and it included beautiful "snowball flowers" - that brought back memories when living at Tapapa in the Waikato, NZ!! As kids, Mum used to tell us off for picking them and throwing them at each other!!
We have all enjoyed the canine companionship of Chocco and Pat certainly enjoyed walking him the evenings and mornings she was able to with Dan and Sue. He's such a good dog with that happy Labrador disposition!!
I thought I had more pics of this day - when I find them - I will add them!!
